Michelle Rumney is a Granada-based artist whose work explores notions of ritual and transformation through the use of basic materials such as raw pigments, cotton thread, labels and paper. Her use of repetitive elements and processes and the resulting patterns and distortions reflect the imperfect hand of (feminine) human intervention that affects everything around us, even in a world of machine-made precision. Michelle’s works have been described as “other worldly”, “blissful” and “meditative”. Her textured surfaces and delicate spaces challenge our ideas of perception and perfection.

“I love working to commission – every space is different, be it a private space or public space. Architecture and ambience affect how I approach each piece. And of course the client’s personal interests or idea they might want me to explore. Co-creation is an adventurous and fun process for both of us.”
